Dr Wayne Cottrell MBChB
I qualified as a doctor in South Africa in 1994, from the University of the Orange Free State and started practising as a Private GP in London in 2001.
I have over 17 years experience of family practice and sexual health screening and I offer a completely confidential, professional, non judgemental service from start to end. I am a firm believer in preventative medicine and in involving my patients in the decision making process. My practice is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC Provider ID 1-2149948301)
I am fully registered with the GMC and HPCSA, and have a licence to practice as a GP both in the UK and in South Africa. I am on the UK GP Register and NHS England – London (North West) PCT Performers list. I was revalidated in January 2016. I am also a member of the Independent Doctors Federation ( IDF) and the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH)
When it comes to my practice, we adhere strictly to clinical guidelines and we practice evidence based medicine. When it comes to sexual health, it is important to see someone who is experienced in the field, rather than just your regular doctor. I am always happy to discuss if you have had a possible risks and whether screening would be appropriate and I will always base any suggested testing on the risk or your symptoms. We discuss and agree all costs beforehand so you know exactly where you stand and I will always provide you with clear and accurate advice based on current British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) guidelines.
When it comes to your health and in particular your sexual health, it is worth paying a bit more to see someone who has the experience and can give you the right advice regarding testing and treatment from the start. You wouldn’t take your Mercedes to a VW dealer, so why see a regular GP when you have a sexual health issue? I will address your concerns in a completely confidential environment and if needed perform any testing in as little as 15-30 minutes. I am usually able to have most results back the same day.
There is no need to wait for days or weeks to see your NHS GP, or lose half a day of work/pay in order to attend an NHS walk in clinic, when you can have a same day appointment, be screened and have results by the end of the day?
Having worked in private and NHS practice for many years, I understand that my patients prefer to see the same doctor and establish a relationship. It’s important that you have time to discuss your concerns with someone who will listen and help in a non judgemental way and someone with the experience to advise you correctly. I do not believe in the 5-7 minute rushed NHS appointment system. We have a team of three doctors and you can choose to see the same one every time for continuity of care.
If you are worried about a risky sexual contact and not sure if you have been exposed, I can advise as to what tests to do. It is essential that you see someone with experience in the diagnosis and management of STI’s to ensure you are given correct advice., rather than a regular GP. Contact me on 0203 197 9100 if you would like to discuss your concerns
