Yellow Fever symptoms and treatment explained
The majority of people will develop no symptoms or only mild symptoms. The incubation period is usually 3-6 days and then progresses to symptoms such as fever, rigors, severe headache, back pain nausea, vomiting tiredness and weakness. Most people recover from this . However about 15% of cases progress further with jaundice high fever and bleeding which could lead to shock and multiple organ failure.
The majority of patients will either be asymptomatic or get mild symptoms, but even if they recover they can have tiredness and weakness for months after the initial infection. In the patients who recover they develop lifelong immunity. Around 20-50% of people who get the severe form of the disease die.
There is specific treatment for Yellow Fever. Patients are hospitalised and supportive treatment is given with rest fluids pain relief and so on.
