UREThRITIS (NSU/NGU)
- Inflammation of the urethra
- Very common problem in men
- Commonly caused by Chlamydia, M Gen, Ureaplasma, Trichomonas, Adenovirus and Herpes, but often no cause identified
- Non-infectious causes such as irritation by foreign bodies, soap or even lube
- The same organisms that cause urethritis in men can potentially cause symptoms in females such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and therefore partners need to be treated
Symptoms
- Dysuria (painful urination)
- Clear urethral discharge
- Penile, urethral discomfort
- Asymptomatic
- Epididymo-orchitis
- Sexually acquired reactive arthritis
Testing and Treatment
- Full Urine STI screen with WBC count
- Treated with oral Antibiotics dispensed onsite
- Abstinence for 14 days after treatment
- Contact testing and treatment of partners
- For recurrent NSU we offer additional screening for the less common causes of NSU
- Rule out other conditions such as prostatitis
