Prostatitis is swelling of the prostate gland caused by bacteria from the urinary tract enters the prostate, creating great pain and distress.

It can be easily mistaken for prostate enlargement and or cancer of the prostate however this is bacterial infection that can be treated very easily with antibiotics if diagnosed early.

There are two types of prostatitis, Chronic and acute.

Chronic prostatitis tends to occur over a matter of months and can be treated with painkillers and antibiotics.

Acute prostatitis has much more severe symptoms which develop very quickly and requires immediate attention.

Symptoms of Chronic prostatitis are –

  •         Pain in and around your penis,
  •         Pain when urinating, needing to urinate frequently , problems  “stopping -starting” when urinating
  •         Erectile dysfunction
  •         Pain when ejaculating
  •         Pelvic lower abdomen, or lower back pain after sex
  •         Pain around the testicles, or anus

Symptoms of acute prostatitis are –

  •         Aches, pains
  •         Possibly a fever
  •         Discharge from your penis
  •         Being unable to urinate
  •         Pain when urinating, needing to urinate frequently , problems  “stopping -starting” when urinating
  •         Pain around your penis, testicles, anus, lower abdomen or lower back
  •         Pain when passing stools
