Focus

In high-performance environments such as Canary Wharf and the City, sustained focus, consistency, and sound decision-making are essential. Difficulties with impulsivity, distractibility, or attention can affect productivity, professional progression, and even personal wellbeing.

We regularly see individuals whose work performance or personal lives are impacted by attentional control difficulties. In some cases, this may contribute to self-destructive or high-risk behaviours driven by poor impulse regulation.

To provide objective assessment, we have partnered with FOCUS Attention, a validated tool designed to measure key aspects of attentional control.

What Is FOCUS?

FOCUS is a computerised, norm-referenced assessment that measures core components of attentional control, including consistency, performance, impulsivity, and susceptibility to distraction (both auditory and visual).

The assessment has been administered more than 15,000 times and has been standardised and validated since 2015. It demonstrates strong psychometric properties and meets and in some areas exceeds accepted educational assessment standards.

While FOCUS is not a standalone diagnostic tool, it contributes valuable objective data to support the assessment of attention difficulties and can help monitor progress during treatment.

The test takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and can be undertaken in clinic or remotely from your computer.

What Does the Assessment Measure?

Consistency

The ability to maintain a steady standard of performance over time. Higher scores indicate greater reliability and sustained attention.

Performance

The ability to complete tasks accurately and efficiently against pre-set standards. Higher scores reflect stronger task execution and cognitive efficiency.

Impulsivity

The tendency to act quickly without sufficient reflection or consideration of consequences. Lower scores indicate better impulse control.

Distraction

The ability to remain focused while filtering out irrelevant auditory and visual stimuli. Lower scores suggest stronger resistance to distraction.

How FOCUS Can Help

The assessment provides clear, objective insight into cognitive strengths and weaknesses. It can help clarify whether attentional control issues may be contributing to work challenges, underperformance, or behavioural patterns.

Benefits of Assessment

In fast-paced professional settings, small improvements in attentional control can have a significant impact. A 20-minute assessment may provide valuable clarity and direction.
