We are delighted to welcome Dr Maria Martinez Herves, an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist, to the clinical team at Dr Wayne Cottrell & Co.
Dr Martinez Herves specialises in the mental health of children, adolescents and young adults. She brings extensive experience in ADHD assessments and autism assessments and general psychiatry, with a particular interest in supporting teenagers experiencing acute or complex mental health difficulties.

Dr Maria Martinez Herves: ADHD and autism assessments
Understanding the reasons behind difficulties with attention, communication, emotions or mental wellbeing can be an important first step towards finding appropriate support. Dr Martinez Herves provides specialist psychiatric appointments covering:
- ADHD assessments: assessment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in adolescents and young adults.
- Autism assessments: assessment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
- Child and adolescent psychiatry: psychiatric care for teenagers and young people with a range of mental health concerns.
- Anxiety and depression: assessment of symptoms and their effects on everyday life.
- Emotional dysregulation: assessment of difficulties managing emotions.
- Psychosis and complex presentations: specialist psychiatric assessment when more complex symptoms are present.
Her experience in adolescent mental health helps her consider each person’s circumstances, development and needs during assessment.
International training in child and adolescent psychiatry
Dr Martinez Herves studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, qualifying in 2007. She went on to complete specialist training in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry at the University Hospital of Ferrol in 2012.
Following this training, she was one of only five psychiatrists in Spain selected by the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation for a prestigious two-year advanced placement in child and adolescent psychiatry at Imperial College London.
Her career has focused particularly on the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions in children and teenagers, including acute mental health difficulties in adolescence.

What should patients know about ADHD and autism assessments?
An assessment is an opportunity to discuss concerns about attention, development, behaviour or emotional wellbeing with an experienced specialist. Dr Martinez Herves considers the individual and their circumstances, including where symptoms may overlap with anxiety or other mental health conditions. A consultation does not guarantee a diagnosis; recommendations and any further steps depend on the clinical assessment.
Who can enquire about an appointment?
At Dr Wayne Cottrell & Co, Dr Martinez Herves offers online appointments for patients aged 11 to 30. This includes teenagers, young adults and adults within this age range who are seeking specialist assessment or psychiatric advice.
Can I attend from home?
Yes. Her Wednesday appointments take place by video consultation, allowing patients to speak with a specialist remotely.
How to enquire about an online psychiatry appointment
For all initial enquiries, please email contact@drwaynecottrell.com. In your email, tell us which service you are looking for: an ADHD assessment, autism assessment, or general psychiatric consultation, and the age of the person attending. Please include as much relevant background or history as you feel comfortable sharing at this stage, such as your main concerns and any previous assessments or support. You do not need to send sensitive medical records in an initial email; our team can advise if further information is required and how to share it securely.
If the enquiry is for a child or teenager, a parent or guardian should make the initial contact on their behalf. Our team can then advise on the appropriate next steps. You can also read Dr Martinez Herves’s full profile to learn more.
