Who it’s for

The Premier screen suits people who want reassurance: a yearly check-up, or an “MOT”. It also suits anyone with a few vague symptoms who isn’t sure where to start. It’s the same appointment for men and women, with the examination and blood tests tailored to each.

Women are usually seen by Dr Jesvina Dhatt, our GP, and men by Dr Steven Miller.

What’s included

A full consultation. Your doctor takes a detailed history, covering your past medical history, family history, lifestyle and any symptoms or worries you’d like to raise.

A head-to-toe examination. Where appropriate and with your agreement, this can include a testicular and prostate examination for men, or a breast and gynaecological examination for women. A chaperone is always available.

Well man or well woman blood tests:

  • Full blood count with ESR: can show signs of anaemia, infection, inflammation or other blood abnormalities that may need further investigation
  • Kidney function: sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate, urea, creatinine and eGFR
  • Liver function: alkaline phosphatase, AST, ALT and gamma GT
  • Proteins: total protein, albumin and globulin
  • Muscle and tissue enzymes: LDH and CK
  • Bone profile: calcium and phosphate
  • Blood sugar and HbA1c, checking for diabetes and pre-diabetes
  • Cholesterol profile: cholesterol and triglycerides
  • Iron studies: iron, total iron-binding capacity, transferrin and ferritin
  • Uric acid, linked to gout
  • Thyroid function: FT4 and TSH
  • Vitamin D
  • Women: vitamin B12 and folate
  • Men: prostate profile (PSA). PSA results can be hard to interpret in men without symptoms, and your doctor will talk through what the test can and can’t tell you before it’s taken.

Urine test. A dipstick test in clinic, with a sample sent to the laboratory, looking for signs of infection, blood, protein and sugar.

Bowel screening test (qFIT). A home stool test that detects tiny amounts of hidden blood. It’s the same type of test used in the NHS bowel screening programme. A positive result doesn’t mean you have cancer, but it does mean further investigation will be recommended.

Before your appointment

Ideally, fast for at least nine hours beforehand, drinking water only. This isn’t essential, but it makes some results, such as blood sugar and cholesterol, more accurate.

Your results

Most results are back the next day, and all within two days. We share them securely through our patient portal as soon as they’re available. Once everything is back, you can book a free results appointment with your doctor, in clinic or by phone, to go through them and agree any next steps.

Adding extra tests

You can add further tests if you’d like, charged at the cost of the test. For women, cervical screening (a smear test) can be added for £180.

A screen can identify signs that need a closer look, but it can’t rule out every condition. If you have new or worrying symptoms, please book a GP appointment rather than waiting.
