GONORRHOEA
- Gonorrhoea can infect the vagina, penis, rectum and or throat
- Gonorrhoea spreads through contact with infected ejaculate/vaginal fluids
- Untreated gonorrhoea can lead to serious complications in both men and women
GONORRHEA SYMPTOMS
- Asymptomatic
- White, yellow or thick green penile, vaginal discharge
- Painful urination (Dysuria)
- Inflammation, swelling of the testicles & prostate gland
- Lower abdominal pain
- Pain/itching or discharge from the anus
- Throat infections are usually asymptomatic
GONORRHEA TESTING AND TREATMENT
- Tests are accurate from 2 weeks post-contact
- If you develop symptoms before that, you should see a doctor
- Urine testing (men) and swabs (women)
- The treatment guidelines for gonorrhoea have recently changed
- It’s now treated by an antibiotic injection, which we can do on-site
- We recommend partner notification and testing
- We recommend abstaining from sex until you have done a test for cure 2 weeks after treatment
